Diec

Diec

Herc carpentry village, ancient name is My Giac, belongs to Quan Be canton, Son Nam Ha town (now in Tan Hoa commune, Hung Ha district, Thai Binh province, Vietnam), about 90 km from Hanoi center). This is a famous carpentry village dating back nearly 600 years. The village specializes in making ancient wooden architectural works, with many patterns and ink marks of the oldest Dao, Tau, Xoi, Angle, ... in Vietnam. Moc Diec was once built as a part of the Cambodian royal palace.

Located in the ancient land and home of one of the homelands of the Tran kings, Moc Diec village still retains more or less the ancient features of the old village such as the image of the ancient banyan tree, the well, the communal house yard. In the morning, the market still holds meetings under the banyan tree in front of the communal house. "Moc Diec" - as well as traditional handicraft products of Vietnamese craft villages - is often mentioned in the old poem "Making Cao Da communal house, making carpentry house". In many families, tools used to make houses such as square ruler, ruler, hand saw, hand planer are still used to replace mechanical tools. The carpentry profession in the heron village has been the same for a long time, not being commercialized like many other woodworking villages across the country. The heron villager is still diligent with the items he makes, mainly serving the lives of the people in the area. Even so, the reputation of the heron village is still far away, and customers everywhere still come to the heron village to order.

It is rare to find a traditional craft village that survives as long as the carpentry of the heron village. Hopefully with the love of traditional craft of the homeland, the carpenters of the heron village will always preserve the beauty of their craft village culture for future generations.
